I don’t think we can criticise a brilliant book and an outstanding way of approaching health due to people accidentally or wilfully misunderstanding the concepts. Most people who talk about it have never read Lindo Bacon’s book. I have, cover to cover.
What the book states is that regardless of your size, it is far healthier and achieves better results to focus on introducing healthy behaviours to your life instead of attempting to diet.
If you diet your life becomes all about one thing. The number on the scale. If the number doesn’t go down, you’ve failed. Who care if you can walk farther, don’t get breathless as quickly, or have lower blood pressure. The scales haven’t moved and that’s all that that matters.
You end up in a death spiral trying to eat less and less til you can;t take it anymore.
Since I found HAES I focus on adding more veg to my meal, making sure I close the rings on my Apple Watch every day, I’ve worked with a trainer at the gym and I feel healthier. HAES is a great program. The people who twist and pervert this message don ‘t change that.
