I Still Haven’t Dealt With it All

I’ve thought about writing this article for a while. I found the experience of sitting with my dad while he died both hideous and strange, and you have feelings you don’t expect when someone is dying. I’ve mentioned that I lost my dad a few years ago in several of my posts. Although he left when I was just a baby and wasn’t a great father for most of my life, we had grown closer and established a relationship in later years.

The day I realised he was sick is burned into my memory forever. A few days earlier, I received the awful news that a very close friend of mine had been diagnosed with liver cancer. She was jaundiced and looked very ill.

She had already lost a baby just as she went into labour, so I wondered why such a lovely person could have such back luck. She was also married with two young children, and I was worried sick about her.

The Reveal

That’s why I looked forward to going to my dad’s for Sunday lunch a few days later. It was a chance to relax for a few hours and unwind. However, when I walked in, my heart almost stopped.
